Yakima EXO Hitch System

Updated: Sep 22, 2022

Helping make the clean, organized vanlife pics you see on the gram a reality

I swear I'm going to paint those hinges. Just look at the Yakima EXO System

Remember your birthday as a kid? That excitement feeling. That's what I get with having the EXO system on my van. It has opened up so much space inside the van where my gear use to live.

Yakima EXO Hitch System

  • EXO Swing Base: $579, EXO TopShelf: $449, EXO GearLocker: $499 (each)

  • You can find Yakima Gear at your local outdoor/bike shops or Yakima

  • Where it shines: Transporting your gear and opening up space in your rig

The clean, organized vanlife pics you see on the gram as someone makes a pour-over coffee aren't real. The making coffee part is. Living in your van always becomes a mess due to the lack of space and all your rad gear. Yakima is giving anyone with a hitch endless opportunities to transport and store your gear outside your vehicle! The EXO is my absolute favorite set-up for the van. The EXO swing base, + the top shelf, allows me endless possibilities to transport my gears. I think the dog is stoked not to have gear falling all over him. You can pick this up at your local bike/outdoor shops, or from Yakima. A product review edit is coming soon to our YouTube channel.

What's RAD

  • Price/Quality

  • Versatility for whatever sport and whatever season you play in

  • All gear (sometimes wet and most times dirty) now have a home outside of the living space

  • Easy setup (Easy on/off)

  • Locks included

  • I could keep going, but I think you get it

Not so RAD

  • My Ram ProMaster 1500 rear passenger door will not open all the way (but opens far enough that the door stays open) when the EXO SwingBase is in the extended (swung out & locked) position. It hits the small quick-release knob. Maybe Gen two will have that knob on the bottom

Kook Tip

  • It's going to be hard to keep your composure and not buy every accessory the EXO System offers. I don't blame you! I have this system on the rear hitch, and front hitch and can carry gear, bikes, and skis/snowboards.
